ENYA will always be remembered for the haunting Orinoco Flow, the single that introduced many to modern Irish music.
Nearly 20 years on and the former Clannad backing singer has just released her eighth album and it maintains that unmistakable Enya feel. While Amarantine follows a well-trodden path, it does so with an assured step - the artist's wonderful voice brilliantly supported by a string of excellent musicians.
The album has a mix of chart-bound material and other tracks destined for a late night listen with the curtains drawn and the log fire glowing. Long Long Journey and title track Amarantine are two instantly memorable songs from the album and could rival Orinico Flow as the Enya tune of choice. But there are other gems, with Sumiregusa a truly haunting effort.
Some may argue that Amarantine is too similar to her earlier work but it has to be said that Enya's formula is certainly a winning one.
