SIR I have never read such a ridiculous letters as that headlined "Put the clocks forward" (Nick Chance, November 15).

He can't be serious. In mid-November it would be dark till 9.30am; in less than a month's time it would be dark till 10.15am. Just imagine being dark till about 10am on a frosty foggy morning.

The school day would have to be changed to 11am start. At present, children are on their way to school between 8 and 9am. Then there are the additional fuel costs in lighting and heating. How would outdoor workers cope if they could not start work till 10am and work till 6pm? Somehow, I can't imagine teacher or workers liking the idea of this.

JOHN NORWOOD,

Kidderminster.
