COLD weather put some people off attending this year's Victorian Fayre, but organisers insist the 13th event of its kind was a huge success.

In fact, Worcester City Council said the lower number of visitors meant more room to roam around for those that did go. Nevertheless the streets were heaving with visitors from all over the country.

And, said Clare Collier, assistant tourism and marketing manager for the local authority, traders were more than happy with the way four-day fair went.

She said: "It is difficult to predict accurately the number of people who went, but we feel it will be slightly under last year's attendance of 100,000.

"That was mainly down to the cold weather and the fact forecasts had predicted blizzards and such, which put people off.

"But far from spoiling the fair, the lower numbers meant people we more free to walk around.

"We have also had good feedback from traders, who were generally pleased with the way things went."

Preparations are now under way for next year's event, which takes place between November 30-December 3.
