SIR David Insull's feelings about the BNP are very 'right on' to the point of being compulsory in post democratic Britain - and they may be why the BNP and the Islamic fascists are gaining such a foothold.

People don't like being told what they can think, say or do by thought policemen like David Insull. Free speech isn't a cosy smug affair. It's a challenging, radical business in which those who propose an idea have to defend their arguments rather than goosestep around fulminating about what Worcester does or "doesn't need", Mr Insull.

When real argument is banned, people simply go underground, whether its Christians who dislike Jews or Muslims who dislike Jews. Their attitudes simply harden and strengthen because they aren't challenged in the hurly-burly of free speech. We don't need humbugs like Mr Insull to tell us what to think. What we really need is our free speech back.

JIM EVANS,

Worcester.
