SIR N Taylor writes in the Worcester News that the BBC is the mouthpiece of the Labour Government and accuses it and New Labour of curbing free speech and other dastardly imagined other anti-freedom activities.

It does us normally adjusted people good to hear such inaccurate and bigoted rants from some people who write to you. We then know that some people do not live on the same planet as us.

Where was N Taylor when the Hutton Inquiry was reporting? Did they report that the BBC was in cahoots with the Government? Far from it. It was daggers drawn between them.

I think the BBC does an excellent job of impartiality and this is acknowledged the world over. N Taylor thinks the BBC is mostly garbage. It probably is to people of his ilk. What about current series such as Bleak House, Panorama and so on? They have a public interest remit and must cater for all tastes.

I think some of it is rubbish, but I realise that some people enjoy what I call rubbish. There is always the off button or the channel change button.

It takes some imagination to claim that there is a tax on multi-media computers. I think N Taylor has caught the UKIP bug.

Throw spurious accusations, straight bananas about long enough and people might believe you. As for the BBC earning its income in the market place. This would lead to it deriving its income from advertising and making programmes catering to the lowest common denominator to gain ratings. If N Taylor doesn't like public service broadcasting, there are always plenty of independent channels on the TV.

TERRY JAMES,

Drakes Broughton.
