THE Malvern United Angling Association's winter league kicked off with a venue change from the Severn at Holdfast to the pool at Mathon, due to the river being in flood.
Despite this, there was a good turnout with conditions cold but bright. Chris Loveridge drew peg 1 and waggler-fished corn close to the island to take two carp and lose two for a winning weight of 5-6-0.
In second place was Mike Spragg on peg 19. Mike targetted silver fish on the pole and caught small roach and skimmers steadily throughout to finish with 2-6-0.
Last year's winner Neil Humpage adopted a similar approach on Peg 15 and netted 0-14-0, which was good enough for third spot.
The next round is also at the pool this Sunday, draw 9am fish 9.30-1.30pm.
Fur and feather
THE club is holding its fur & feather contest this year on the Severn at Holdfast.
This annual mince pie and dubious sherry 'fest' takes place on Sunday, December 11. Draw 9am.
A festive buffet is to be held on the bank after the contest, and members are asked to bring a raffle prize. With meat vouchers awarded to the top-placed anglers, it's an event not to be missed.
