I like to keep up to date with Malvern news via the website and the Gazette. Though I now live in Staffordshire, I grew up in Malvern and still regularly visit my parents, who live near the proposed development at North Site.

I have read much about a possible link road between the A449 at Newland and the Leigh Sinton Road, ostensibly to relieve congestion on Newtown Road.

No-one yet appears to have given any thought to the immediate and future impact of such a road on the northern end of Malvern, especially around and beyond the Link and Upper and Lower Howsell.

If a road is built to relieve a problem in one place, it merely moves that problem elsewhere.

It is entirely possible that the problem will be exacerbated, since 'infill' development is bound to take place between the road and the existing built-up area, leading to an increase in traffic which more than cancels out the initial intention.

Look what happened at Townsend Way. It's happening around here too - the M6 Toll is a mile and a half from my house.

Malvern is a unique place and any development should be considered very carefully.
