WHILE sad that the traffic continued to flow round the Belle Vue Terrace island on Remembrance Day (Malvern Gazette, November 18), I am glad to report that our local chainsaws fell silent at 11am for two minutes.
Then they resumed their felling of a massive and magnificent cedar tree in an Orchard Road garden. The tree will be much missed, having been admired by visitors and residents alike for more than a century but had been dying all this year.
Now it is gone, will we remember the heritage which the Victorians bequeathed to us? Will we replace this lovely old cedar with something of similar beauty and grandeur? Will future generations want to thank us for what we gave them to enjoy? I do hope so.
MIKE YOLLAND, Abbey Road, Great Malvern.
