COLWALL WHC moved to the top of Severn division one with a 2-0 win against Bretforton IIs when the match between their nearest rivals, Newent and Yate IIs, was called off because of a frozen pitch.
BRETFORTON II 0, COLWALL WHC 2
In bitterly cold and foggy conditions, Colwall started well, and despite numerous chances, and the majority of possession were unable to open the scoring.
As the fog thickened, the umpires consulted the captains to see if the game should be abandoned, but the captains agreed that it should continue.
Colwall finally went ahead after the half time break when Anna Stocker drove down the right, passed to Laura Entwistle who crossed the ball for Nicky Glover to deflect into the goal.
Colwall sealed the win when Stocker struck a free hit into the goal area for Coral Handley to divert into the roof of the net.
Colwall's next Severn division one match will be against Dursley at the Ledbury Leisure Centre tomorrow (Saturday), starting at 2pm.
In the event of bad weather, information on whether the game will go ahead can be obtained from Coral Handley on 07773 491203.
