WORLD record holder Anna Bailey, from Hanley Swan, won her sixth consecutive British title on Sunday and then slipped and broke her wrist.
Competing in the British Indoor Rowing Championship at Birmingham's NIA on Sunday, Anna, aged 54, won the 2,000m women's heavyweight 50-54 age group in 7.23.2. It was outside her world and championship record times, but still over 20 seconds clear of runner-up Karon Phillips of Maidenhead RC.
Anna said: "Someone was helping me carry a rowing machine back to my car when I slipped on a ramp and later realised I had broken my left wrist.
"I'm out of the Belgian Championships in Antwerp on Saturday, and sadly, the Europeans in Copenhagen next week."
Anna has set a January deadline to be back in competition, when she also moves up an age group.
