WE had Bobby Vee at the Hall last week (with Chris Montez and Johnny Preston). Now that won't mean much to some of you, but it certainly will if you are of a certain age!
Bobby Vee was huge when I was a young boy, and hits like Rubber Ball and The Night Has A Thousand Eyes put him high up on the stars list. It was a thrill for me to book him, but sometimes, you wait for the day of the gig with your heart in your mouth in case the reality doesn't match up to the legend. Believe me, I've had a few disappointments over the years.
Just occasionally, you get a jackpot result, and I have to tell you, Bobby Vee was that jackpot. He sold out weeks before the gig, he had a polite and helpful road crew, the band was to die for, the stars of the show were lovely and it was a really great show which absolutely delighted the audience. And to top it all, I saw Bobby in Worcester the next day, and he gave me a hug and said it was the best venue he had played for years. Wow! Doesn't get any better than that with heroes. Let's hope the mercurial Van Morrison is as pleasant when he comes in December. You never know your luck!
Jack and the Beanstalk is booking really fast at the Swan. Come on, give yourselves a treat, and come and join in the fun. Remember, you don't have to be a kid, just young at heart!
