KIDDERMINSTER ju-jitsu star Matthew Binnion was on course for a gold medal at the British National Championships - before a twisted ankle made him settle for silver.
The 26-year-old Kidderminster Martial Arts club member swept into the final of the under-65 kilos category but had to retire midway through to receive medical attention.
Despite the late disappointment at the competition in Worcester, instructor Sean Kealey said Binnion had done the Bromsgrove Street club proud.
"There was a very high standard of competitors from the across the country so he's done brilliantly."
Anybody interested in taking up the sport can attend beginners sessions at Kidderminster Youth House from 7pm until 9pm on Mondays or phone Sean Kealey on 07939 076924 for more details.
