IF district councillor John Campion had tried to phone the police lately on anything other than a 999 call, he would know that centralising communications usually turns out to be a complete shambles.

So, instead of trying to get the local council offices centralised (Letters, October 27) , he should try and get the cogs of the Worcestershire Hub greased so they work a little faster.

About five months ago about a dozen bricks were knocked out of a wall in the grounds of Bewdley Library.

They lay there for weeks, and three different people came from Worcester to look at them. Then a refuse lorry came and took them away.

They were not damaged, and one man with a bucket of cement could have replaced them well within 30 minutes.

Our younger generation should heed an old, but very true, saying - "Take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves."
