KIDDERMINSTER Carolians proved that good things come to those who wait by eventually ending their eight-game losing run to haul themselves off the bottom of Midlands Three West North.

The Marlpool Lane men have been on the brink of turning the corner in the past few weeks.

And they finally got the result their improving performances deserved with a 31-5 win over fellow strugglers Newcastle.

From the start KCs were determined to maintain their recent good form and immediately pressurised the Newcastle line.

They should have taken an early lead but a missed penalty by Andy Stooksbury kept the score blank.

However, they did break the deadlock when Eddie Ross crossed after a sweeping move involving Mabon Jones, with Stooksbury converting.

Despite a series of Newcastle penalties putting them on the defensive, KCs held firm.

And on the stroke of half-time good play between Stooksbury and Ross allowed the latter to crash over with the former adding the extras to give KCs a 14-0 interval lead.

The second half again saw KCs start brightly and it was third time lucky for Chris Pinner who eventually touched down after just missing the final pass from two earlier attacking raids.

Stooksburys touchline kick was successful and at 21-0 up KCs were in total control.

They extended their advantage further midway through the second period when Dan Quinn fed a well-timed pass to Tom Mayer to crash over the line.

Newcastle deserved credit for their never-say-die attitude which was rewarded with a consolation try late on.

But KCs finished off the game in style when Mark James broke blind to set up winger Tom Scandrett for the final try after a driving maul and seal a vital 31-5 victory.

KCs will be hoping for a repeat performance and a similar result when they travel to Old Halesonians at 2.30pm on Saturday.

Player coach Stooksbury said: "It was a deserved win, our work-rate was excellent and the line-outs and scrummages were much better.

"Ben Turner, returning after a long lay-off with a knee injury, was superb and Tom Mayers work-rate could not be faulted."

KCs seconds held the key to victory when a farcical mix-up by hosts Pershore saw the match abandoned and the Marlpool men awarded the points.

Pershore officials could not locate keys to a container storing the post protectors, causing the Merit Table match to be called off.

KCs thirds beat Pershore 35-0 to extend their winning run to eight games.

Michael Shires grabbed a hat-trick with John Shires and Grant Stewart also scoring and Spencer Crockett kicking five conversions.

They face Old Halesonians on Saturday.
