MUSIC SOCIETY: Members have enjoyed two quite different events this month. First, to a concert at Warwick on November 16 to hear the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra with a programme which included Prokoviev's Piano Concerto No 2. This is said to be his most romantic concerto. It really was a magnificent performance and then followed by Symphony No 4 by Tchaikovsky.
Back at Shipston on Friday, November 18, an illustrated talk was given by Mr Keith James entitled Holst and the Museum. The talk started from the birth of Holst in September 1874 in Cheltenham into a family of professional musicians.
Mr James is deeply involved with the Holst Museum in Cheltenham and highlighted some aspects of that.
The society next meets at 7.30pm on Friday, December 9, for a live concert by the Oxford Operatic Society, guests welcome. Contact 01608 661808.
