THE next time you complain about your lot in life and the poor hand of cards you feel that destiny has dealt you, just stand back for a moment and spare a thought for little Amy Lambert.
At the age of two, she was diagnosed with leukaemia. Against all odds, she fought and won a struggle for life in an intensive care unit. For the next two years, she underwent chemotherapy.
On top of all this, when Amy came out of hospital, she was unable to walk or talk. But after a time, thanks to her courage and determination, she managed her first few steps.
Now aged five, Amy has been in remission for 18 months, but as a result of oxygen starvation, suffers from epilepsy and a nervous disorder. Undaunted by all this, Amy remains cheerful and is popular with her friends in the Worcester City Badgers Sett.
Not before time, the courage of this remarkable little girl has now been recognised. She has been invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace and will meet the Princess Royal.
But even this has not been without incident, for just before she received the news, Amy was taken to hospital after a fall. Despite this, she remained cheerful and insisted on carrying on.
This newspaper salutes the endurance and fortitude of Amy Lambert. The happiness and joy that should always punctuate the days of childhood has been hers only because of the flame that burns undimmed in the depths of her soul.
So. When you fancy having a moan, just think of incomparable Amy.
