REDDITCH VC bowed out of the Birmingham FA Cup on Sunday, when they lost 3-1 to Leamington Lions.
Redditch made the perfect start when a fine run by Nat Lawrence was cruelly brought to an end by a poor tackle. But from the resulting free-kick Lawrence superbly placed the ball into the top corner of the net.
With VC passing the ball around well and dictating play they were unlucky not to add to the score.
Eventually Leamington started to get their foot on the ball and their experience began to show. They created a number of chances only to find Redditch keeper Nicole Metje in outstanding form.
Livia Turton was also playing particularly well at full back and made some vital challenges while Claire Compton also worked well in midfield and made a superb last-ditch challenge when it looked odds on Leamington would score.
The visitors continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and they finally bagged an equaliser in the final minutes, scrambling home from a corner to send the game into extra time.
Leamington struck again five minutes into extra time with a fine effort from inside the box.
Redditch then tried to hit back but both Compton and Jenna Dedicoat failed to turn the ball home and the Lions added a third in the closing seconds.
VC's Player of the Match was Livia Turton.
