Redditch United 0 Worksop Town 3

JUST one win at home all season makes sorry reading for Redditch United fans.

And there was no let-up in that miserable run at the weekend when three second half goals ensured Worksop returned to Nottinghamshire with all three points safely in the bag.

The Reds had Walsall's Joe Broad back in the side after agreeing with the Saddlers to keep the 23-year-old for the remainder of the season.

And the midfielder's class was one of the few highlights in an otherwise dismal afternoon.

Chances were few and far between in a wretched first half with the only clear chance falling to the visitors in the ninth minute.

A wayward header from Scott Dann fell to Worksop's Steve Robinson. His initial attempt to shoot was blocked by Matt Clarke but he tried again and then, after looping an effort over United keeper Nathan Vaughan, saw his effort strike the crossbar.

The home side upped the tempo after the break and finally forced Worksop keeper Adam Sollitt into action on 53 minutes when Jermaine Clarke latched onto a Simon Hollis cross.

But just seconds later, the visitors broke the deadlock. Vaughan failed to gather a ball into the area and leading scorer Antony Jackson was on hand to stab the ball home from six yards.

Two goals in eight minutes then killed off Rod Brown's side who had hoped to end their home hoodoo in time for Saturday's crucial FA Trophy clash with Valley Stadium visitors Barrow Town.

Ben Saunders powered home a header from a Steve Nicholson cross on 71 minutes and the same combination made it 3-0 when Saunders, on loan from Doncaster Rovers, climbed high above Redditch defender Dennis Pearce.

With Jermaine Clarke having an off day in front of goal, it fell on the shoulders of strike partner Craig Wilding to try and rescue the Nationwide Conference North strugglers.

A glancing header from the former Stafford Rangers frontman flew wide of the target and Sollitt did well deep in injury time to keep out another Wilding effort after a typically robust run from skipper Matt Clarke.
