FAIRFIELD Villa thumped Newhall United 7-0 on Saturday to sign off from Midland Combination Division One action for the next month as they enter a run of four consecutive cup games.
The result, which moved Villa up to fourth place in the table, was made possible by a Stuart Hall hattrick as well as strikes from Joe Walsh, Spencer Kenwood, Rob Walsh and Nathan Broadhurst. Co-manager Paul Oakes was understandably delighted with the result.
"We have been winning games recently but not playing that well so I was very pleased with the way we played against Newhall on Saturday," he said.
"Adam Guest and Joe Walsh were brilliant in the centre of midfield and Stuart Hall was excellent up front."
Oakes is now turning his attention to cup football in a month that he says will 'make or break the season'.
"We are playing all cup football for the next month and that will have a big influence on our season," he added.
"I don't think it will have a negative effect on our league form though as we shouldn't be too many games behind the other teams in the league."
Villa start their run of cup games on Saturday when they travel to Powick, who play in the Worcester Premier League, in the quarter final of the Worcester Junior Cup. The side then face a tough game on Tuesday night when they take on Mid Comb Premier side Alveston in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup. The next two Saturday's Villa play Littleton in the quarter final of the President's Cup and Burntwood in the Challenge Cup respectively.
