THERE'S not a lot anyone can do about England's winter weather.
At some point in the season, non-league clubs up and down the country face postponed games due to waterlogged or frozen pitches.
It's unfortunate for us that last Saturday's game at Alfreton was called off, because we are playing catch-up in terms of league matches.
We've played 13 Nationwide North games while other teams are at 16 or 17. We are four games behind a number of sides, so it makes things difficult for us as the season goes on.
If we can win those games in hand, we'll be looking to reach mid-table. So we're not losing a massive amount of ground.
There are a lot of games coming up around Christmas, but it has always been that way. We've just got to deal with it and with the squad I've got available at the moment, we should be fine.
But if we struggle with injuries or the fixture backlog becomes a major problem, we may look at bringing in one or two new players.
I just hope Saturday's FA Trophy tie with Kendal Town goes ahead. I heard the weather might not be too clever this weekend and cold temperatures might be drawing in again. Obviously, we could do without an-other postponement.
And if it does go ahead, we could do with finishing the job first time without a replay.
Kendal are a decent side, placed near the top of the UniBond First Division. They have a couple of good players. Lee Ashcroft has been a good striker down the years for West Brom and Preston, while midfielder Ian Kilford had a brief spell at Bury.
They won last weekend and thrashed Guiseley 4-0 in the previous round of the FA Trophy, so they will be confident of getting a result.
We have done magnificently in the FA Cup and it would be nice to put another run together in the FA Trophy. There is no chance of us ever winning the FA Cup, but there is a possibility in this competition.
Over the last few years, Conference sides have not taken the FA Trophy very seriously and we've seen that with the teams getting through to the final.
Financially, there are bonuses too. Every time we get through each round, we pick up prize money and anything that adds to the pot is good for the club.
Finally, there is a possibility that Jai Stanley will need an operation on his knee. But I don't think it will be a serious one, just a quick clean-up.
Jai has been working hard to make his knee ligaments as strong as possible. But his knee keeps locking and there may be a problem of a floating bone.
Unless the surgeon says otherwise, we don't expect Jai to be out for much longer than two to three weeks.
Shabir Khan still has a groin problem. He can run at three-quarters pace, but it's getting him to 100 per cent that is the problem.
