Colwall 2,
Bretforton Ladies II 0
VISIBILITY was poor throughout Saturday's match that saw the teams evenly matches in the early stages after a delayed start.
Ceri Barber fought hard to keep possession and marked well in the middle, while newcomer Luisa Petta also made her mark on the right wing.
Bretforton, though, found it difficult to force their way through the Colwall defence. One short corner was gained with Shirley Aubrey striking well and the rebound was met by player of the match Barber who was unlucky not to find the net.
The hosts found their feet as the match advanced and they put pressure on the visitors' defence where Fiona Jordan worked hard and looked at ease removing the ball from the Colwall sticks.
She also combined well with Kay Amphlett to advance the ball onto the midfield.
Colwall earned a series of short corners but were denied a goal by Bretforton's strong defending. Jude Edghill was diligent in her marking on the left of the pitch, while Fiona Lovecy saved a high ball with her stick near the end of the first half.
The second half saw continued pressure from Colwall and, although Bretforton managed to work the ball well in midfield, they found it hard to get into the opposition's D to create scoring opportunities.
Amphlett did well to clear one effort off the line and Marion Icke made some vital stops to get the ball to safety.
However, Colwall made the breakthrough with a strong strike that evaded the diving Lovecy.
The home side's second followed a superb move that a tiring Bretfor-ton were unable to halt and a free hit from outside the D found a forward who firmly swept the ball into the net.
The match ball sponsor was the aptly named Mister Fog!
Bretforton are at home to Leom-inster on Saturday.
