THREE students from a Redditch school have demonstrated their musical mastery by winning their way to the final of a prestigious countywide competition.

Worcestershire Young Musicians 2005 has been searching for the most musically adept young people and three Kingsley College pupils have made it through to the final.

Sam Germaine-Scrivens is one of just six soloists taking part in the final and a winning combination of Joanne Lucas and Hannah Boyce Mears has beaten off stiff competition in the ensemble category to be competing against just one other entry.

The final takes place tonight at Huntingdon Hall with the Worcestershire Young Musician of the Year 2005 title being awarded at the end of the evening. The Nomura Award, a prize of £250, will be made to the solo winner, enabling them to have a lesson with a leading performer and teacher.

The winners of the ensemble category will be awarded £250 for their school's music department.

Tickets for tonight's final cost £6, £3 for concessions, and are available from the Huntingdon Hall box office on 01905 611427.
