HOUSEHOLDERS guilty of fly-tipping could face fines of up to £5,000 under new regulations that came into force on Monday.

Under the new Duty of Care regulation, residents who do not use authorised waste carriers could face fines or fixed penalty notices from Redditch Council if their fly- tipped rubbish is traced back to them.

Fly-tipping has cost the council £47,000 since April.

Guy Revans, the council's head of environmental services, said: "These new regulations are designed to encourage householders to work with the council for everyone's benefit to make sure rubbish is dealt with responsibly and stop waste cowboys in their tracks."

All household waste can be disposed of free of charge at the site in Park Farm North. Bulky items can be collected by the Council at a cost of £5 per three items, or quotes can be arranged for larger amounts of waste. For more details, call 534123.
