GRAHAM Turner would love to see his Hereford United side repeat last season's LDV Vans Trophy achievements.
The Bulls can make further inroads into the competition tonight if they overcome League One opponents Port Vale in a second round tie at Edgar Street (7.45).
Last season, United stormed to the northern area semi-final stage, defeating Football League sides Blackpool, Scunthorpe and Doncaster on the way before exiting to eventual winners Wrexham.
And director of football Turner is determined to take United on another long Trophy journey.
"We were unlucky to lose the area semi-final last year," said Turner. "We played well and should have got a better result against Wrexham.
"It would be nice to get that far again. We want to go as far in the competition as we can.
"Port Vale are a decent side and play at a very good level. But we've proved that we are capable of beating these sides. We showed that against Mansfield and last season against Blackpool, Scunthorpe and Doncaster.
"We enjoy playing the better sides. When we play against them, we tend to find more room to play good football. You think it's going to be a tight game, but it doesn't tend to happen that way.
"Some teams haven't played their strongest side in the LDV Vans Trophy and that has surprised me. If other teams decide to play weakened sides, so be it."
Turner added the majority of United's line-up that defeated Dagenham and Redbridge 1-0 on Saturday will keep their place.
The solid centre-back partnership of Tony James and Tamika Mkandawire is unlikely to be tinkered with, while Guy Ipoua and Andy Williams hope to start in attack again. Jon Brady, Jamie Pitman and Rob Purdie should figure in midfield.
Vale midfielder Michael Husbands, who enjoyed a loan spell at Hereford from Aston Villa in early 2003, is expecting a tough tie.
He said: "I don't know the current players, but I know what Graham Turner will want from them and that they will try to play football.
"It was a good experience there and showed me just how hard it is to play in non-league."
Meanwhile, Bromsgrove Rovers aim for back-to-back triumphs in Southern League Division One West when they host Solihull Borough tonight (7.45).
Rovers won their first league game in four attempts last Saturday with a 2-1 victory at Burnham.
Pershore Town entertain Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves in the Worcestershire Senior Urn second round (7.45).
