KIDDERMINSTER Carolians lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a comprehensive 31-5 Midloands Three West (North) victory over Newcastle.

From the start KCs were determined to maintain their recent good form and immediately applied pressure to the Newcastle line.

They should have taken the lead but a missed penalty by Andy Stooksbury allowed the score to stay blank.

However, after an excellent move which swept from one side to the other, Mabon Jones off-loaded the ball to top try- scorer Eddie Ross to cross the line. Stooksbury's conversion was successful.

Newcastle were allowed to pressure the Kidderminster line as a constant series of penalties kept them on the defensive. But Newcastle were unable to score any points as the aggressive Carolians defence held firm.

Crucially, on the stroke of half-time, a good move be-tweeen Stooksbury and Ross allowed the winger to burst through the defence to score under the posts. The conversion was successful to give KCs a 14-0 half-time lead.

Early in the second-half Chris Pinner made two superb breaks but the final pass was just out of reach on both occasions.

But soon after he did finish off another exciting move. He chipped the ball over the line and was first to the touchdown. Stooksbury's touchline kick was again successful.

Kidderminster were now in total control and mid-way through the half increased their lead still further when Dan Quinn timed a good pass to Tom Mayer who crashed over the line.

Towards the end of the game, Newcastle scored a consolation try but KCs finished off the game in style when Mark James broke on the blindside to set up winger Tom Scandrett for the final try.

Kidderminster Carolians now have a chance to put together a winning streak and travel to Old Halesonians on Saturday (2.30pm).
