THE annual match between Worcester's two top rugby schools, Royal Grammar School and King's, takes place at Worcester Rugby Club's Sixways headquarters on Wednesday evening (6.30pm).
RGS have started the season well with only one loss before half-term. All their games have been close with the highlights being wins against Cheltenham College, Loughborough Grammar and Bristol Grammar.
Despite losing to Solihull it was a dramatic game. Trailing 22-6 at half-time, RGS pulled it back to 25-25, but Solihull managed to power over in the final minutes.
The team is well balanced with a powerful front five, an ever-busy back-row, some creative middle backs and an explosive back three.
Jonathan Lightowler, this season's captain, may return from a hamstring tear in time for the match. If he is fit he will add even more speed and flair to the backs.
By contrast, King's have made a slow start to the season with their squad disrupted by a number of long-term injuries. Their playing record to date shows seven wins from 12 games.
However, following fine victories over Warwick and Monmouth, Peter Gwilliam, master in charge of rugby at King's is now able to select from a full squad for the annual derby fixture.
