FORMER Worcestershire opening batsmen Stephen Peters is hoping his move to Northamptonshire revives his career.
The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal after being given permission to leave the New Road club.
Peters moved to the County from Essex in 2002 and enjoyed productive summers in 2003 and 2004.
But he lost his place in the side and suffered a poor 2005 campaign, averaging just 18.8 runs from 16 Frizzell County Championship innings.
Now at Northamptonshire, where South African Kepler Wessels is director of cricket, Peters is set to begin training over the winter in preparation for a new challenge.
Peters said: "I know it is a clich but at this stage in my career I need a fresh challenge. I am looking forward in particular to learning from Kepler and further developing my technique.
"I believe that I have plenty to offer the club and its supporters and will be working throughout the winter to fine tune my personal fitness so that I will be available for selection throughout the long season ahead."
Former Worcestershire seamer David Wigley also joined Northamptonshire at the end of last season.
