Gross mortgage lending fell by 3 per cent in October to an estimated £27bn -- easing back after a surge the previous month.
Despite the modest decline, this was still one of the highest monthly lending figures on record. This reflected the recovery in house buying over the past year andhigh levels of remortgaging.
