A congregation of around 120 attended last Sunday's Remembrance Day Service at St James's Church, which was conducted by The Rev. Rosemary Herbert with all the traditional observances, strong singing and a moving and thought-provoking sermon from The Rev. Julian Charley.

Most of those present moved on after the service to the Royal British Legion Club and enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch, followed by entertainment provided by youthful cousins, Jonathan Stevens and Kerry Whittal-Willams, who sang songs old and new, accompanied by John Morris.

Public notices have been posted warning of the impending closure of the part of Old Hollow connecting West Malvern Road with the north end of Mathon Road from November 28 for up to 10 weeks.

The work will involve reconstruction of the road where it has been subsiding into the garden below and has been supported by steelwork for many months past.

We understand, however, that before the highway reconstruction can begin, it will be necessary to divert underground electricity cables.

The first stage of actual work, involving closure of the road, is likely to be for a single day, probably in mid-December, for tests to locate the cables.

This will be followed, but possibly not until into January, by closures lasting several days for the actual diversion of the cables. The major works to reconstruct the carriageway is therefore unlikely to start until well into the New Year, but when they do, the road could be closed for anything between six and ten weeks.
