WITH autumn comes the desire to add something new to our ward-robe and the most affordable way to do this is through your accessories.

Handbags are an easy way to transform an outfit. The trends this season are for tweed and metallic leather materials with decoration from studs, buckles and corsages.

Popular designer bags are always beautifully made but costly. The alternative is to find a bag from a smaller company or designer that expresses your personal style more uniquely.

Malvern designer Emma Evans fell in love with accessory design while studying textiles at Herefordshire College of Art and Design and has been designing bags for over three years

After training at the London College of Fashion, she returned to Malvern.

"I feel it is good for me to be designing independently without the constraints of fashion trends," she said.

In a world of identikit black bags, her use of super soft leather, felt and faux fur make these unique bags stand out.

"I consider myself more as a tactile artist really, through the ways I use the materials and in my aim to make exactly what somebody wants."

It is this attitude to her designs that has led to her creating a bespoke service in order to make one-off bags for special events or for individuals.

"People feel really special, going somewhere with a bag made just for them," said Emma.

The autumn-winter collection has been inspired by vintage handmuff styles of the 1950's and earlier. The practical bags and mitten combination can be worn strapped around the neck, or as a belt as luxurious winter daywear.

Available in dusky pale pink and blue and autumnal brown, cream and jet black, the curvaceous, super soft napa leather muffs are lined in faux fur and feature a concealed pocket for carrying essentials.

The cute handmuffs dress up any outfit and add a contemporary edge to regular handbag styles.

Emma is pleased with the response to the new shapes. "They seem to be a design people love," she said.

Her bags can be seen at Chilled, Graham Road, Malvern, Sharon MacSweeneys Workshop, at the Foalyard, Bransford and the Blue Ginger Gallery, Stiffords Bridge, or contact 07901 864460 for the bespoke service.
