BREDON COLTS U15S 5, WELLAND JUNIORS U15S 4
WELLAND finished on the wrong side of a nine-goal thriller against high-flying league newcomers, Bredon Colts.
Welland started brightly but conceded two early goals, both arising from their failure to clear corner kicks. However a wonderful individual goal from Rob Graney raised spirits and this was followed by a clinical Will Underhill header from a Cathal McTernan corner. Welland's first half dominance was confirmed when a Bredon defender deflected Stuart Davison's shot into his own net.
Welland continued to look the better side for much of the second half. James Allen and Josh Lewis excelled in defence and Davison and Mark Green dominated the midfield with Underhill and McTernan a constant threat in attack. The visitors wasted several great chances but, when injury forced sweeper Andrew Jones off, they lost their defensive shape and conceded three quick goals. A great run and finish from McTernan brought the score back to 5-4 and the last five minutes saw Welland unsuccessfully throwing everything at the home defence.
Stuart Davison won the man-of-the-match award.
LYPPARD RANGERS LASER U15S 3,
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U15s 1
A DEPLETED Newtown Sports Colts squad of only 10 fit players took on Lyppard Rangers Laser at Little Perdiswell.
The Colts had to make an early change as Scullion failed to overcome a stomach-upset, with the less the energetic Caffull taking his place. The shuffled midfield of Jaye, Allison, Hale, Edwards and Caffull took their time to get to grips with the physical Laser midfield, so it was no surprise when Laser took the lead through a well-worked move.
The Colts fell further behind when the unlucky Roskams mis-headed the ball from a corner and Laser finished off the goalmouth scramble. The Colts responded and played some good passing football, with Powell and Newell in unfamiliar positions shoring up the defence. The Colts got their reward shortly before half-time when Hale was up-ended some 23 yards from goal. He dusted himself down to hit a terrific free-kick into the top corner.
In the second-half, Laser probably had territorial advantage but the Colts continued to play good football, and with minutes remaining Budd found Buckle, but unfortunately he put his shot wide. Laser took advantage of the Colts attacking formation to break-away and snatch a third, seconds before the end of a pulsating game.
NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U13s 8,
OLDBURY PARK TIGERS U13s 3
WITH both sides boasting 100 per cent records it was the Juniors who eventually took all three points in this U13 encounter but they had to come back from a two-goal deficit against a very attack-minded Oldbury.
Oldbury started the quicker and pressured the Juniors defence, Freeman was forced to turn aside one blistering effort but was undone when hesitating as the ball bounced across the area and Bayliss smashed home. Two minutes later Shemwell outstripped the defence and unleashed a drive high into the net. Rock was introduced for Juniors and his impact was immediate, he caused mayhem in the area and Watling poked home the loose ball. A minute later Watling had drawn the sides level with an angled drive.
The Juniors were winning the midfield battle, Roskams and Bannister were bringing the wide men into the game and Morton's trickery saw him upended in the area and Bannister converted the spot-kick. Watling made it four with a deft finish and Rock's persistence was rewarded with his side's fifth and with time up in the half Bannister's well-placed shot made it six.
With the slope and the wind in their favour Oldbury went flat out in the second half. Kyte and Parker dealt with the bombardment whilst Crews and Bridges held firm at full-back. When they were beaten Freeman was always alert and made crucial saves when called upon. It took an error from the Juniors defence to allow Oldbury back into the match, Freeman went to pick up the ball but Kyte kicked it straight to Bayliss in front of an unguarded net and he scored with ease. Juniors' Watling took advantage of a loose ball to score and then Rock danced through the defence before sliding home from the acutest of angles to secure his sides' eighth and sixth consecutive win.
Man-of-the-match was Callum Rock.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U11s 1, WORCESTER RAIDERS EAGLES 3
THIS hard-fought Mercian Festival League U11s game had plenty of attacking play at both ends and Malvern Wanderers goalkeeper Pete Shepherd made great saves.
A powerful shot from a determined Brent Gibbs found its mark despite a goalmouth scramble, but Worcester Raiders Eagles produced an equaliser soon after. Myles Cunningham, Nathan Bass and Josh Seabourne all kept the pressure on until half-time.
In the second-half, the pace of play was maintained as Max Howie, Harry Cain and Josh Lloyd all worked hard and produced reliable defensive play. Kieran Smith and Stan Mason both broke through the visitors' defences several times and were unlucky not to score. In the last part of the game though Malvern seemed to tire and the Eagles scored twice, with a third effort disallowed.
The final scoreline did not reflect the game, which was evenly matched and enjoyable to watch.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U9S 3,
LYPPARD RANGERS TIGERS 0
MALVERN Town Wanderers U9s enjoyed their first win of the season, a long awaited success.
Following some skillful passing from the midfield, Josh Smith scored a fine goal opening goal for Wanderers. Lyppard came back with some strong attacking play but were thwarted by the defence of Courtney Bray, Jake Churchill, Max Lobo and Nick Smith.
In the second half Wanderers kept up the pressure and their efforts were rewarded by a spot-kick put away by Adam Page. He struck again within a few minutes with a second powerfull shot.
