Two new restaurants on Belle Vue Terrace, as well as Priors Croft, in Grange Road, may well be excellent news for the town, if they deliver on quality service, but has anyone worked out where punters will park?
Already, Church Street loses its essential two-way traffic facility for much of the working day; as does upper Priory Road. Orchard Road, jammed with parked cars, has long since been abandoned to one-way traffic for residents, as well as the theatre; although many of the incoming vehicles are just lost, because there is still no adequate sign at the entry from Priory Road to indicate there is 'No Through Road'.
So when, and how, are the authorities going to face up to our centre of town parking problem, or is there already a plan in place to tackle this intractable puzzle, rather than relying on unchecked blocking of residential streets and private entrances?
Realistic proposals must be evaluated, and implemented, if ever more cars are to be invited to patronise new facilities.
