BOSS Stuart Watkiss admitted it will be a case of "square pegs in round holes" tomorrow for troubled Kidderminster Harriers.
As the financial pinch bites at Aggborough, Harriers are not helped by injuries and left-back Wayne Hatswell's one-match ban at home to Conference high-fliers York City.
Watkiss saved money by releasing defenders Wayne Evans and Steve Burton but still has little scope to bring in tried and tested replacements.
However, he has signed former Wolves reserve Patrick Flynn, who played one game in a short spell at League Two strugglers Torquay this season, on non-contract terms.
The former Irish youth international, 20, can fill in at right-back, allowing the versatile Johnny Mullins to operate at centre-half or in midfield.
But Dubliner Flynn is hardly an experienced option for Watkiss who is considering giving Russ Penn his Conference debut in the engine room after a good loan spell with Alvechurch.
The likely replacement for Hatswell at left-back will be winger Michael Blackwood who is one of only two left-footed options but has played in the position before.
Injury doubts for Iyseden Christie (virus and foot) and Taiwo Atieno (hamstring) mean Burnley loan signing Marc Pugh could win his full debut.
Martin O'Connor (knee), Gareth Sheldon (hamstring) and Simon Russell (wrist) are all on the casualty list, while Chris McHale is regaining match fitness at Stourport Swifts following a long lay-off.
With a right-footed player set to be deployed on the left of midfield tomorrow, Watkiss confessed: "Whatever I do it is going to be a case of putting a square peg in a round hole.
"There's a number of options but I'm swaying towards playing Michael at the back because I know he's played there previously.
"When I let Steve Burton go it was with the intention of using his money or Evans' money to bring in a replacement but obviously that hasn't happened.
"With 'Hats' out this weekend, we've brought Flynn in to give us that extra little bit of cover and an extra option.
"He's only here on non-contract terms at the moment so it's an arrangement that suits everyone. We're just able to take a little look at him."
Attack-minded York's former Harriers loan addition Andy Bishop and ex-Hull man Clayton Donaldson will be gunning for Harriers.
Watkiss' men lost 3-1 at Stevenage last weekend and have won just one league game in seven fixtures.
But Billy McEwan's side have hit rocky form themselves with three defeats in a row, 2-1 at Accrington, 3-0 at home to Grays in the FA Cup and 1-0 to lowly Burton Albion.
