COLWALL maintained their winning run in Severn Division One with a 4-2 victory against local rivals Leominster at Bridge Street on Saturday.
LEOMINSTER 2, COLWALL WHC 4
Colwall started the match with a reorganised team because of limited player availability, and Leominster took advantage of some uncertainty in the Colwall defence to score the first goal.
Colwall levelled the score when Coral Handley received a cross from Lesley Wood, evaded three players and sidestepped the goal keeper before putting the ball into the empty goal. Handley gave Colwall the lead from a retaken penalty flick, and then completed her hat-trick with a good shot from a short corner.
Leominster counter attacked strongly, and Colleen Rogers did well to clear the ball off the goal-line, and good defending by Lucy Halligan, Laura Entwistle, Sam Shail and Jill Miles maintained Colwall's lead at half-time.
In the second-half, Leominster won a succession of short corners, but the Colwall defence held firm. Nicky Glover made the game safe for Colwall deflecting a ball from Jackie Styles past the keeper to make the score 4-1.
Leominster scored another goal in the closing minutes of the game when Colwall were down to 10 players when Laura Entwistle was off the pitch with an injury.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Colwall play Bretforton II at Ledbury Leisure Centre, starting at 2pm.
