DAVID Robins, Malvern's director of rugby, has taken positive steps to bolster the Spring Lane side's back division.
Robins said: "We lost most of our experienced backs to higher-rated clubs or the Southern Hemisphere during the close season. Although we have blooded some of our emerging youngsters, it was probably too soon for some of them to be exposed to first team rugby at this level.
"Whilst they have played their hearts out, our current position demanded urgent action. We have now signed Worcester Academy and English Colleges centre Christopher Ridgers, who goes straight in to play against Barkers Butts. We will also sign Ireland U19 full-back Robert Bowles, currently registered at Torquay, who should be available within 10 days."
Robins said that another signing, an experienced three-quarter, was almost certain within days.
"Being depleted by injuries, on top of the player losses, has put Malvern into an unfamiliar position. We have 14 games to climb out of trouble and rebuild ready for another push next year."
Malvern face Barkers Butts tomorrow (Saturday), at 2.30pm at Spring Lane, when there will be a pre-match VP's lunch.
