SIR - On Friday, November 4, there was a letter by D E Margrett attacking N Taylor, the "Europe-haters" and the "far right" Conservative Parity.
I always assumed debate should be kept at a mature level, with respect shown for the opposite point of view along with a respect for freedom of speech and freedom of association. However, when it descends into one-sided playground name-calling and "hate-labelling" then it becomes a farce.
When someone from the alleged "right wing" offers an argument or a point of view, certain elements of socialism love to shout yah-boo and give hate-label names (xenophobic, far right, sexist and so on), as if to show intellectual and moral superiority.
This is nothing new and has been a tool of socialists and communists for ages.
They are the first to cry out for freedom of speech for themselves, yet snarl with hatred when someone dares to offer a view that differs from theirs. When they get power it becomes more than a snarl of hatred. Why does Robert Mugabe come to mind, I wonder?
ANDREW HOPE-HALL,
Worcester.
