I KNOW my friends in the Royal British Legion would agree, that helping with the annual Poppy Appeal is most rewarding.
Standing in Evesham High Street and enjoying a chat with many who pass-by who contribute to our worthy cause is sheer joy. We get tired at the end of the day, but it is really worthwhile. As I stand, or sit, outside Lawrences the Bakers, the aroma of the bread and cakes and pasties etc is an extra bonus indeed! I have met people from Slovakia and the USA in addition to our own folk from various parts of the UK. People of every age group, lots of ex-service men and women who are all very interesting stop, give and chat.
This year, I feel there has been extra interest and support. May I ask readers to consider joining us and perhaps next year you can make a start and do what many of us have been doing for over 50 years.
My thanks to all, when we go door to door and greet us so warmly, in addition to those already mentioned in the street collections. I know my friends in the Legion will say the same.
As we are reminded At the going down of the sun and in the morning - we will remember them.
GILBERT BOND, (Member RBL Evesham Branch), Cambria Road, Evesham.
