RICHARD Burgess struck a last gasp equaliser to earn Swifts a share of the points in this six-goal thriller at home to Taunton Town.

Stourport had looked set to hand manager Roy Rencher his first win after easing to a 2-0 lead by the break.

But the West Country visitors hit back to set-up a thrilling finale at Walshes Meadow with the match finishing in a 3-3 draw.

Chris Hughes hit the home side's opener after just 90 seconds, his stunning first time volley from 25-yards giving Taunton keeper Scott Corderoy no chance.

Swifts had a number of chances to add to their tally but Craig Webb pushed an effort wide before Rory May's point blank header was brilliantly turned away by the keeper.

Burgess bagged his first of the afternoon on 33 minutes, turning the ballhome from close range following good work from strike partner May who was making his debut, along with on-loan Kidderminster Harriers defender Chris McHale.

But any hopes Stourport had of cruising to a crucial win took a knock less than a minute into the second half when Anthony Lynch notched from the penalty spot.

Taunton levelled on 58 minutes when substitute Pete Sheppard fired past Eric Pudaloff and the visitors' recovery was complete on 72 minutes when Shane Kingston netted.

Corderoy pulled off a number of saves at the other end, the pick of which denied May and substitute Ben McLoughlin.

Boss Rencher thought it was going to be another one of those days when his steadil-improving side would end up empty-handed.

But just when the points looked to heading back down the M5, Burgess latched on to a through ball and drilled his shot home from the edge of the area.

Despite salvaging a point, Swifts continue to prop up Southern League Western Divison One.
