GROWN-UP pop to appeal to the masses is the name of the game for this band's latest foray into the music market.
Like their previous albums, Red Book is more of a slow burn than a big bang and bears all the hallmarks of classic Texas.
The album represents more than two years of work - and it shows. Each carefully crafted track is a vibrant and confident-sounding pop song. And the overall effect is an album of real strength and depth which could rival White on Blonde, arguably Texas's best album to date.
Band member Johnny McElhone describes their sound as "...electronic pop, Giorgio Morroder, Kate Bush and the usual mix of Prince and Motown", which sums Red Book up nicely.
There are certainly no fillers - a rarity these days - and each song is pretty much a stand out track - with perhaps Getaway, Sleep and Get Down Tonight and Can't Resist having a slight edge on the others.
The limited deluxe edition includes the videos of Getaway and Can't Resist and a DVD of Texas recording live at Abbey Road.
