Riverway 4 Tenbury United 1
ROCKED by two quick goals midway through the first half, a young and inexperienced Tenbury side went down to their ninth defeat of the season in Division 1 of the West Midlands League at Stafford-based Riverway on Saturday.
Tenbury started cautiously and were put onto the back-foot when the home side scored from two crosses inside two minutes. The shock acted as wake-up call and United started to play some good football. Aaron Morris failed to convert on a couple of occasions, Ashley Botwood laying on the chance both times.
Brett McIntosh gave the visitors a lifeline when he got on the end of a George Pearson cross and guided it home after 38 minutes. Tenbury pushed more players forward looking for an equaliser before the interval, but were caught on the break in added time to leave the score 3-1 instead.
Tenbury showed plenty of determination in the second half, and with Ashley Botwood busy in attack created a number of good chances, but were weak in front of goal. The home side added a fourth goal to make it a long dismal trip home.
Tenbury Reserves bowed out of the Kidderminster League Cup when they went down at Birch Coppice by 3-0.
Their first half performance was encouraging, creating a number of good chances, but lacked both luck and accuracy in front of goal. Their chances of getting their first win of the season receded when top goal-scorer Jackie Magill was forced to go off injured in a tackle, just as he was about to get a shot on goal.
The second half was going along well until a soft goal left them chasing the game, they were caught out twice on the break, to finish well beaten.
