FOR the past 30 plus years, competitive and recreational running has been an important part of my life.

However my enjoyment is diminishing rapidly. Do the parents of the young people hanging round near the bell tower in Evesham on Sunday afternoon know that their children were chasing and abusing solitary female runners? Yet again I have had to curtail a run due to the actions of these bullies. Over the last few months I have also been subject to abuse shouted out of car windows as I have been running along the pavement on Waterside. It all supports the government statistic that this part of Evesham is one of the 27 per cent worst areas in the country for crime.

Running is a valuable health promoting activity but the climate in and around the town parks at evenings and weekends seems to offer little incentive.
