BRETFORTON appeared to make rather heavy weather of Saturday's game and struggled to find any form at all.
However, there were a few brief spells of promising play with Julie Hall in midfield making an excellent pass to right midfielder Deb Slatter in the D - but she was unable to convert.
Slatter made a number of good runs before passing well to Andrea Cole and Lisa Workman but again opportunities were squandered.
Goalkeeper Vicky Webb was again in excellent form with a number of crucial saves - the best when she dived full length to push the ball wide of the goal with her stick to ensure half-time stalemate.
The second period was a little more positive for the hosts who forced a number of short corners. Jane Wheeler came closest to making one count but her shot flew inches wide.
It was left to player of the match Slatter to break the deadlock when, after several incisive runs down the right wing, an acute angled shot that deflected off a defender's stick earned an off key Bret the three points.
Birds with Brushes sponsored the match ball.
This week's match is at Eve-sham High School against Glou-cester II ahead of Sunday's junior clash against Blockley.

ALTHOUGH play was largely balanced and Bretforton managed to hold strong periods of possession, luck on the day was definitely with the Cotswold team.
Kate Williams spurned a great early for a solid visiting side that saw player of the match Kim Barry teaming up well down the left with Emily Aston.
Cirencester, though, gained the upper hand after a series of short corners and took the lead after an initial save from a short corner by Fiona Lovecy.
The second half saw improved play from Bretforton with fewer long passes. Ceri Barber, who played well in midfield, also worked hard when switched to defence after the loss of the injured Lesley McKinnon.
Cirencester continued in the ascendancy but they were met with spirited resistance from sweeper Fiona Jordan who was helpless to prevent her side going 2-0 behind after a break from midfield.
Bretforton then had several good chances, especially one from a short corner, that was saved on the line, while other shots on target were well saved by a strong Cirencester goalkeeper.
The home side's final goal again came from a well-practised short corner routine that caught out the disappointed visitors
The player of the match was Kim Barry and the match ball sponsored by Kermit Ltd.
The seconds are next in action at Colwall.
