Polesworth 3, Littleton 1
A CRIPPLING injury list is seriously disrupting Littleton's Mid-land Combination campaign.
The Division One outfit took to the field at Polesworth last Saturday with a team containing six different players from the previous week. And in an entertaining game, the visitors gave their all and were perhaps a little unlucky not to earn a draw.
Littleton almost went ahead early on when Nathan Hawley made a run down the right and his powerful drive was turned over by Neil Barnes who had an excellent game in the home goal.
Not to be outdone, opposite number Danny Edwards made an equally adroit save but shortly after he had to receive treatment after a brave save at a forward's feet.
Joe Wright was then put through but was smothered out as he was about to shoot and this was quickly followed by an effort from Paul Jones that went wide.
Littleton were rocked by two goals in the last five minutes before half-time gut they came out full of spirit in the second half and halved the deficit inside four minutes when Simon Brain's persistence led to Wright netting.
Two minutes later a whipped cross from Tom Wilmot was met by Wright's head but Barnes made a superlative save.
The game was now end to end and Rooke scored a third for the hosts when he converted from close range.
There were further opportunities at both ends where both keepers were in constant action but no further goals were forthcoming.
Littleton are away again on Satu-rday to high-fliers Burntwood, ko 2pm.
