DAVE Boddy is preparing to hand Andy Preece a slice of Worcester City's FA Cup cash bonanza to strengthen his squad.
Regardless of City's result against Huddersfield Town in the televised second round tie on Sunday, December 4, the club is expected to bank up to £200,000 from their involvement in the famous knock-out competition.
Following Monday's 1-0 replay win over Chippenham, in front of a capacity 4,006 attendance, chairman Boddy insinuated that the triumph should serve as a turning point in Worcester's future, not just in financial terms but on the pitch.
That includes an optimistic target to reach the Nationwide North play-offs this season, despite City's below-par start to the campaign.
Boddy admits that the successful FA Cup run does provide an opportunity to widen the club's tight transfer purse-strings.
"We've got to sit down and assess it," said Boddy.
"I'm sure if Andy comes to me and says he wants to bring somebody in, we will look at it favourably because I'm still not writing off a challenge for a play-off place in the league.
"Ultimately, the cup run will come to an end sooner rather than later and we have got to be climbing up that league table going for the play-offs.
"What we've done is tremendous and, hopefully, the club will take off from here. It's given us a platform financially.
"We've got a management team here that are second to none and they will now hopefully have the ammunition to take us forward."
Boddy is also hopeful attendances at St George's Lane will soar as a result of City's well-publicised cup success. The club average 940 in league games this season and, following the sell-out against Chippenham, Boddy insists City should be attracting four-figure crowds on a regular basis.
He said: "We have got to put some of these people on to regular league gates. Our league gates have now got to start topping 1,000 every game because we put on a show against Chippenham.
"It was a great night when we beat Accrington and last Saturday was a great day because we beat Hednesford 6-2. Again, we've won in front of a big crowd -- we've got to keep these fans."
Boddy savoured the triumph over the Bluebirds and admits it meant a great deal to many people associated with City. He added: "We've got people in the boardroom who have worked for this club for 15 and 20 years and they have had no success and no reward.
"They have battled to keep this club alive and this is for them and the supporters. Our fans have been so starved of success over the last 20 years, ever since we got relegated from the Conference. It's just nice to have something for the supporters to get excited about."
