Droitwich Spa 3 Cadbury Athletic Reserves 0
MATTHEW Jenkin's brace made sure Droitwich bagged their first win in the Midland Combination Division Two of the season in style over high-flying Cadbury on Saturday.
The substitute's brace near the end of the game sealed a victory which relieves some of the pressure which has been building on manager Tom Goss and his bottom of the table side.
The Spa boss admitted the win was much needed after his side had struggled for points in its previous eight games.
He said: "The pressure wasn't on us in one way as the way we were playing we were making chances."
Despite being up against a side pushing for promotion Spa was unfazed and controlled the first half.
Stuart James' cross caused panic in Cadbury's defence and a defender headed past his own goalkeeper to put Droitwich ahead.
In the second half Droitwich were under pressure, but the appearance of Jenkins, who had missed much of the season because of injury, changed the game in Spa's favour.
James won the ball and put Jenkins in on goal and he made no mistake with 15 minutes to go.
The striker then bagged his second when he burst through Cadbury's defence.
Goss said: "Matt's worked really hard to get fit. The likes of him and Tom Saunders have missed a lot of games, but they deserved their chance to shine.
"This result is for the players. They can relax a little now and take confidence for the result. They all deserve it."
Droitwich will be aiming to make it two wins in a row on Saturday when they go to struggling Warwick Town (2.45pm kick off).
Spa will still be missing Matt Morton, who is recovering from a knee injury, and Gary Cleaver for the trip to Warwick Town.
Goss said: "We've got our first league win and we mustn't be complacent."
