Warwickshire One
Trinity Guild 0 Alcester 19
Alcester secured a vital first away win thanks to a much improved performance in Coventry.
After an even opening Alcester's superiority at the line-out began to pay off and, following a well rehearsed move, skipper Nick O'Connor picked up at the base of a ruck and forced his way over.
The sides turned around with the visitors leading 5-0 and aware that the next score would be crucial.
Alcester continued to enjoy the majority of possession but when John Dover missed with a penalty, the game seemed set for a nervy finale.
Alcester's most potent weapon remained the catch and drive from the line-out and they made good progress on numerous occasions. But the score to make the game safe still eluded them.
A second score finally came five minutes from time when Trinity dropped the ball beneath the posts and Alcester centre Brett Allard gathered to touch down. Prop Matt Bolton kicked the extras.
The final score followed another line-out. This time scrum-half Scott Carmichael capped a brilliant first league start of the season with a fine individual try which was converted by Bolton via the upright.
