The fourth AGM of the BRSS Ltd was held at the DD & S Club, Stourbridge Road, Bromsgrove. It was attended by the board of directors.
Rob Birch took on the role of chairman in the absence of Des Best. Des Best sent his apologies.
The committee were Tracy Unwin, secretary; Maurice Weaver, accountant; Tony Turpin, entertainment officer; Peter O'Connell, press officer; Tony Unwin, director; Joe Amess, director. There were apologies from Tony Swift, director.
Also present were members of the BSSS, which gave quite a flavour to the meeting. Rob Birch, in the opening statement, welcomed the £5,000 shares from BRFC and we have the certificate registered at Companies House.
It was also stated they had been a long time coming and now we could hope for a better relationship with the board of BRFC.
Rob then expressed the plans for the future of BRSS.
It is very pleasing to know that BRFC now has its own fundraising committee. It eases the burden on everyone and every little bit helps.
For our part we will continue to raise money as best we can and incidentally, although money raised by our own members goes a long way to boost the bank balance, it would be very welcome to see a few more at our fundraising events.
For our part, we have decided to help the club by sponsoring any match that is still available. Also we would put a BRSS board on the ground. All other money raised would be banked as a contingency fund and used in emergencies i.e. if the club gets in financial trouble or forecloses. Having said that, money will be available to invest in the BRFC emergency work etc., paid to the club on the basis of one share for each pound paid to the club.
Continuing, acting chairman Rob Birch stated that in the not so distant future the BRSS would like to have a opted member of the society on the board of BRFC, purely as a mediator for society business only.
The secretary, Tracy Unwin, read out the minutes of the last AGM - they were seconded and passed.
In Maurice Weaver's accountants report he stated that we are now in a better position than last year.
Copies of the accounts were passed to all members attending the meeting. Any member wishing to obtain a copy can do so by writing to Maurice at the registered office (address on the website). Members were asked if there were any questions. There was a lot of constructive response with members having a lot more insight into the hard work put in by the committee.
Before the meeting ended Rob Birch announced that at a previous meeting it was declared unanimously that we would ask Phil Baker if he would take on the role of president of BRSS. This was duly done. Phil said he would be highly honoured and do his best to get BRFC and BRSS sitting on the same fence and working together. Members attending voted Phil Baker president with an unanimous show of hands.
