SIR - Seeing the old photograph of Berwick Bridge recently in the Evening News brought back many happy childhood memories.
There were two holes within the bridge either side. The "dare" was to crawl through and drop out the other end or ease yourself across the outside ledge or jumping the four corners avoiding the mud.
It was a pleasant walk up the Berwick Field across the stile to Barneshall Avenue where there were about four properties at the time.
A popular walk for families on Sunday evenings was through the withy beds to the river up to the Ketch or maybe Kempsey. And, of course, it was a popular walk for courting couples. What innocent times! I am 86 years old and, of course, this was all pre-war.
