PUPILS and teachers from a Spa school are celebrating after being put under the spotlight by inspectors.

Droitwich Spa High School, Briar Mill, was visited by an Ofsted team, which spoke to students, observed lessons, interviewed staff and gathered feedback from parents through a questionnaire.

After the visit the team agreed that the school and its sixth form, which has 1,450 pupils on the roll, was 'good' and had taken effective steps to promote improvement since the last inspection.

They also highlighted areas that they felt were outstanding in the school, including the curriculum at key stage four. It was acknowledged that the school has worked hard and been unafraid of innovation in designing a model that meets the needs of all students. The impressive report saw the majority of categories rated with a grade two or 'good' rating.

Highlighted with an 'exceptional and consistently high' grade was the extent to which learners make a positive contribution to the community.

The inspection team also highlighted the contribution made by the school's sixth form students, who support students' learning and are very positive role models.

However, areas highlighted for improvement include identifying and sharing effective teaching styles, to improve the consistency and quality of marking students' work and to ensure that all pupils in year 11 are taught religious education, in order to meet statutory requirements.

Allan Foulds, headteacher at the school, said: "I would like to pay tribute to the students, staff and governors of Droitwich Spa High School for their hard work, dedication and commitment.

"We know that this is a good school. We also know that there are a number of outstanding features in this school and I am delighted for all concerned that this has been reflected in the positive outcome.

"We are very proud of our school and our community."
