A COUPLE of juniors from the Evesham club rowed at last weekend's Pangbourne Junior Sculls.
The event is one of the largest junior Heads of the season and attracts hundreds of competitors, mainly from schools, like Eton and Westminster, that offer rowing as part of the PE curriculum.
Oli Staite and Rory Sul-livan represented the club in the J15 single sculls, competing against 28 other boys.
Conditions were perfect - bright and clear with barely a breath of wind and, with only one bend on the river, there were few steering hazards to worry about over the 3,000m course.
Staite sculled a steady course over the first two-thirds of the race then picked up the rating to power down the last 1,000m helped by plenty of encouragement from the bank.
He finished in second place behind a sculler from Westminster School in a time of 13 minutes and seven seconds.
Sullivan was pressurised from the start of the race by two scullers but neither managed to gain water and the Vale racer was determined not to let them get past.
He put on a spurt in the last 1,000m and fended them off right to the finish when he he had claimed fifth spot in 13.14.
The club is fielding more than 25 competitors at the British Indoor Champion-ships at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
The next major event on the water is the Evesham Senior Head of the River on Saturday, November 26.
